Factors that Hinder Adherence to Physical Activity and a Healthy Diet among Palestinian Non-Communicable Disease Patients: A Qualitative Study

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) tend to be long-term and are caused by genetic, physiological, environmental, behavioral factors. Palestine is undergoing an epidemiological transition. It estimated nearly two out of three elderly Palestinians suffer from NCDs. This study aimed identify the barriers practicing physical activity eating a healthy diet among Palestinian non-communicable disease patients. Methods: qualitative was carried September 2020 November ten NCDs patients who received care in five governmental primary healthcare centers Gaza Strip. A semi-structured interview guide developed used collect data based on health belief model theory planned behavior. Data analysis performed using thematic method. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative research Checklist (COREQ) report data. Results: led identification main categories, factors affecting practice PA, diet, adherence behaviors. interviewees had positive attitude towards PA were lack accessibility materials, social support, reminders. Also, as self-efficacy most common diet. Conclusion: NCD understand importance benefits behaviors, but absence basic infrastructure supportive community, their awareness may not translate into actions.
